Claire Dillon – Plans for 2016
My main aim this year is to complete Ironman Frankfurt on 3rd of July and still be able to walk – might be asking too much here! Hopefully I will enjoy it. So far this year I completed a duathlon in the Park, the Gauntlet in Lough Cultra (the half distance race) and the Double Olympic in Athy. A gluten for punishment I entered the race in Athy to gain race experience in the open water when the swim in Lough Cultra was cancelled due to fog.
Training commenced last December however I would have had developed a good base from the prior year having completed 2 half ironman distance races and Dublin marathon. Training has been progressing well and normally consists of 2 swims, track/brick on Wednesday, spin session in either Alison or Kevin’s classes, S&C from Joe Clifford with a long cycle and run at the weekend. The main change that I made this year was getting a coach who gives me a set plan each week and also training by heart rate. While at the start this was frustrating (I had many a rant about it), once you stick with it you see the benefits. Now in the taper section of my race preparation there is nothing further to do just bring on race day.
