Top Form – My journey to high-end performance
If you’ve been in Pulse for any amount of time then you’ve probably come across Paul O’Callaghan. Paul is one of the better athletes in the club and is regularly putting in great performances all around the country in road races and triathlons. Paul is deaf but has never let that get in the way of his training, socialising with the club or slagging off his mates when he has beaten them in a race, again!
Last summer Paul travelled to Spain for a training camp and documented the whole trip as part of a college assignment. It’s a great read and show’s that with the right attitude there is no reason that communications difficulties should stop you doing what you want and what you are good at.
A small disclaimer: If you’re new to the club or you dont know Paul you may read this and be scared by the amount of training he did, thinking that it’s normal. Dont worry, Paul is far from normal – I’ve been chatting to him exhausted after a race for him to tell me he’s off to his beloved Cork to do a marathon the next day!
