Nutrition Talk – November 11th
The club has arranged for a nutrition talk to be given by Beth McCluskey on Monday 11th November in IT Tallaght from 7:30pm – 9:00pm. This talk is free of charge and open to all club members. They say nutrition is the fourth discipline of triathlon so no doubt there will be much valuable information available on the night.
Some of the topics on the night will be:
- Basic Science – how training makes us faster/stronger/fitter
- Nutrition/training/genetic interactions.
- Long and Short Term Nutritional Strategies for Performance and Training Adaptation.
- Nutritional Periodisation from the off season through to the build and race season.
- Most common nutritional mistakes in Irish Endurance Athletes and how to avoid/fix them to improve your performance.
- Healthy eating rules for athletes.
- Question & Answer Session
Beth is a former international cyclist and runner and has competed at World & European championships in both disciplines. She studied biochemistry & molecular biology as an undergraduate and also holds an MSc in Food Science & Nutrition from DIT. As part of her MSc Thesis she researched the nutritional ergogenics of proteins and amino acids and she has a special interest in optimum nutrition for long and short term training adaptations in endurance athletes. She is passionate about sharing the latest science-based nutritional strategies based on IOC International sports nutrition guidelines and the latest research in exercise physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and nutrition.
Beth has been working with athletes since 2007. She has worked with Triathlon Ireland and Cycling Ireland’s junior and development squads and most recently has been mentoring the Cycling Ireland Girls’ Talent Team 2020. She has worked with cyclists, triathletes, adventure racers and runners; optimising their nutritional strategies for performance and health. She is a member of PINES (Professionals in Nutrition for Exercise & Sport), ISSN(International Society of Sports Nutrition) and The Nutrition Society.
