Pulse @ Tri795 Carlow
Weather conditions were reasonably good for the first race of the 2018 BMW National Series, Tri795 Carlow on Sunday. The water temperature for the swim was 15 degrees Celsius. Over 30 Pulsers raced on the day, and for some it was their first triathlon.
The women’s race was won by defending champion Aine Donegan in a time of 01:07:20, in second was Ellen Vitting, and in third was Pulse’s Orla Walshe. Walshe exited the water ahead of Donegan, but a strong performance on the bike saw Donegan in the overall lead coming into transition. Orla finished in a time of 01:10:07, a fine performance from this young triathlete.
In the men’s race, Con Doherty added the Tri795 men’s title to the National Duathlon and National Aquathlon titles that he has already won this year. He finished in 00:59:35, closely following with a time of 01:00:35 was Cillian Tierney from Tralee TC. Third place in the men’s race went to Andrew Bye in a time of 01:02:44.
Pulsers put in a strong performances in all age categories, and we had several podium places:
- Orla Walshe – 3rd female overall, 1st in the Intervarsities Championships, and 1st in AG.
- 2nd in AG – Kieran Hopkins, Sarah Stapleton, Esther Bayon.
- 3rd in AG – Caitríona Ryan, Siobhan Quain, Dee Needham and Leon Shakeshaft.
